Can an option for when steaming.
To either:
  1. Stream
  2. Play Locally
  3. Stream and Play Locally

i beleive there is an output option within VLC that allows for play locally.

Thanks

If you select to stream....and set your player as download the stream should go to a file which you can then play locally from your pc. The file that you download will be the transcoded file.

Ah I think you missed my 'genius' idea.

my idea is to be able to use something else to change the playing stream/file.

IE the pvr is playing a music which is piped outside from the soundcard. Then using a remote PC change the music.

i have found the vlc command:
Code:
:sout=#duplicate{dst=display}

Interesting.....but I am still a little cloudy on what you would use this for.....

From what I can tell using the duplicate param with dst=display would cause the file that is being transcoded and being servered up on the streamer port to also play (duplicate) on the local machine......

So....if joe user starts a stream and is at work.....the video would also start playing on the PC that is hosting GBPVR.

If you are on the local machine I am not sure why you would want to stream anyway.....wouldn't you want to just play the file at its full encoded value and at your LAN speed? The Play button on the screens will send the file to the PC you are on (remote or local) at the full encoded value and as fast as your network can handle.

Let me know what you are thinking of.....

I am looking to turn it into the central controller for a multi room audio system.

the host machine is in the main living room connected to a decent a/v setup.

Then in other rooms i have other machines, 2 being old style Xboxes which can played streams.

so the idea is in another room i can direct the main system (using the web interface) to start paying something, and then open up the stream for the other rooms and play in the main room.

Going back to the transcoding, i have actually set my system to basically stream raw, with no extra compression, i have a prity fast lan.

and i guess it would quite funny in a way to start paying something at home when at work Wink

Not sure I completely understand...

But I suspect you would end up with all kinds of timing problems if trying to listen to the same stream in several locations at the same time - which I guess wouldn't be an issue unless you can hear the audio bleeding through from the room next door...

timing problems are not an issue, I have that fixed. I can set the player ends to 0 time buffer so there is no lag. I currently use VLC as the primary streamer, i just need the 'front end' and GBPVR which I already use for TV is a pritty good match.
