We fell into this trap back in the UK (I'm a Brit) when the BBC went to 14x9 and C4 went to PAL Plus. They touted "High Definition" TV but actually it wasn't. The 14x9 standard was an interim (which I think they still have today) which would display letterbox on a 4x3 TV and not quite widescreen on a 16x9 set.

Do a google for "Waddington Television experiment" to read all about the smoke and mirrors.

Well from what I have seen in the last few years of stargate and battlestar where produced in widescreen and I would think it would fallow in hd, so long as scifi isn't stupid there should not be an issue. I know what you mean about fake HD stuff, TBS has said that they where going to be showing friends in hd. Its kinda hard to but a show in HD that wasn't shot that way, unless they are going to rescan all the film, doubt it probably going to stretch it.

Would this card allow me to receive the DN HD? If not which will?

This is one place I have found some info about NA DN HD info, your best bet might be to ask at http://dvbn.happysat.org

I have a Twinhan 1025 and had it setup to work with DN both sats via the disqec switch. I had to create two different capture sources, each with the different menu items. I played with this about a year ago, but didn't notice any HD channels. 'course, I really wasn't looking at the time. I've been wanting to set it all up again and play with it, but I had an issue with a memory leak due to a, uh, "plugin" and couldn't have my main GBPVR system go down because of this.

For some more information http://www.satelliteguys.us is a good resource. I'd search their forums for the 1020a, I know there is some discussion about getting HD on the 1025.

I have been reading up on the DVB cards available and although the Twinhan 1020a card is quite popular I was thinking of purchasing the DVBWorld DVB-s2 HD 2104 USB receiver (Box & specs can be seen here). I think this is a good option for a number of reasons

1. It is USB so no heat issues in my case.
2. It supports DVB-S and DVB-S2 so I am future proofing
3. Costs $65.00USD direct from the manufacturer (although it does have to be shipped from China so I am not sure what that will cost)
4. I should be able to pull HD or SD depending on the satellite that I point at
5.. It supports QPSK, 8PSK so I should be able to point to B3V, DTV, or DN (Someone please correct me if I am wrong)

Has anyone seen or played with this? I am assume that this will all work with GBPVR since it has BDA drivers? Sub?

Thanks

I dont personally know anything about the device, but I should point out it'll only work for DVB-S not DVB-S2 with GB-PVR. The DVB-S2 tuning is not defined in the BDA spec so each manufacturer does it a different way. I have no idea how this manufacturer does it.

Does any one know what the difference between 8psk and 8psk-turbo is?
The only tuner I know of that does 8psk-turbo is the genpix skywalker 1, which is usb, its made by a guy on the dvbn.happysat.org, the problem is its expensive but It would probably be the easiest thing to get fully supported in gbpvr, I dont think that the guy who built it would have a problem telling sub the details on how to get the all the non bda spec stuff working.
EDIT:
Here is the website for the device
http://www.genpix-electronics.com
unfortunately it 300 dollars hopefully it will drop eventually

I *think* its just a faster data rate and thus able to support more channels per stream.

http://www.broadcom.com/press/release.php?id=473736

Problem is that with faster data comes wider bandwidth and so the "8" bit starts to go a little astray.
