I just bought a new Media MVP. Rev H4. I was able to start it with GB-PVR using the default dongle from 1.1.5. I never even started with the Haupauge soft...

So I decided to try some different dongles, and I don't think it's letting me. I power cycle like normal, but whenever I try with a mvpmc dongle, (last stable and latest alpha 1/20) I just get the normal, GB-PVR screen. Maybe I'm out of touch, but has mvpmc been changed to go straight into GB-PVR, without a config file...

Anyway, I don't really see any difference so I think my H4 is holding onto the dongle, and won't a new dongle get loaded. Ever heard of that?

Are you sure it really loaded the 1.15 dongle and you are simply not running the older dongle from flash? (Your logs will show the tftp transfer and then the connection). The internal dongle has some issues so I hope you can work around this problem which is usually network or firewall related.

Regarding stable vs alpha mvpmc, in general the latest alpha is also more stable but I've been too busy/lazy or not ready to upload the code.

I thought it might be using the flash, but why would I be able to see GB-PVR...? Maybe it only updated once and then used the flash from then on...

Do you know the best way to purge the flash?

And which log has the tftp entries?

The flash contains a "real" dongle.bin and you are running it everytime you see the preferred server choice. Hauppauge don't provide a way to reflash it but purging isn't necessary just make sure that the tftp process works.

Your mvp-pvrx2 log will show the request for the fake version file and then the tftp transfer when it works.

As a note at one time I was able to store mvpmc into flash now it has grown too big.

Yesterday, I installed the Hauppauge software (disabled the GB-PVR RS) and was able to load the latest dongle.

THen I went back to GB-PVR and tried with your 1-20 nightly, and still poped right up to the GB-PVR iterface. Does your nightly go straight to emulation mode?

And if I understand correctly, the MVP could have a GB-PVR dongle in flash memory. When I loaded the Hauppauge software , the dongle didn't actuially get written to flash. And so when I started GB-PVR, and tried load you dongle (too large for flash anyways, the MVP couldn't get your dongle loaded and used the flash dongle (which was the one successful tftp session, from the beginning)

... ?

Well if that's the case, then it seems that GB-PVR isn't uploading the dongle correctly, or something is blocking it. But nothing has changed, so why did it get through the router to start with and not on next times?

I do know that it's time for a rebuild of my dev and production machine. Something was messed up from tipster's network tips that prevented me from trying your telnet/vlc/config file stuff...

But I just don't know how the MVP got the GB-PVR loaded the first time...

Well emulation mode doesn't start automatically unless of course your share is working but you'd have seen the mvpmc splash. I did consider it for the alpha but that wouldn't be too fair to the other developers.

I still think it is network or firewall related. Hauppauge uses bootp which maybe helps the client find the server. In any case unplug it try again and unplug your log. A potential quick fix might be to swap network cards in your machines.

I believe that the problem I had was related to a problem I have had in general trying to get the mvpmc dongle working with telnet and vlc. It was all a result of some deep tipster network tweaks...

Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and reinstalled my computer. It was 6 months and ready for it anyway.

I have GB-PVR installing dongles the way it should. No doubt I will be able to finally get the mvpmc thing going too.
