My motherboard has both an AGP slot & a PCIEx1 slot for a graphics card.

PCIEx1 cards are crazy expensive however the x16 cards are now cheaper than their AGP counterpart.

Has anyone used a PCIE x16 card in a x1 slot & will it still give the video decoding assistance the card advertises to GBPVR?

Or will I run into problems using 16x in my MB?

x16 & x1 are completely different slots aren't they? (ie not a compatible pinout)

Do'h you are correct, what I should of said was that my MB has x 16 slot that only provides x1 bandwidth if that makes sense.

I think I found part of my own answer, a 1x pcie is roughly equal to twice the speed of AGP 8x.

Now my only question is can I run a 16x card effectivly in a x1 speed slot.

yes you can, it will just run at a lower speed. we even have some fun adapters at work that take a 1x slot and make it a 16x slot (with some extra wires connecting ground pins I think, but that should be done by your mobo.)

So I have a PCI-X x1 slot in my m/board - can I then use a PCIx-16 card in it... interesting - If that is the case, I can maybe give up on running DVXA H264 on my AGP card.

I wanna say some won't work in the slot if it's only 1x because of the video card power requirements. I thought 4x was the slowest they'd work... I think Tom's Hardware tried this by putting tape on the connector of the video card to essentially emulate a slot being 1x 2x 4x 8x 16x to test speed.

if it has the 16x slot, it is probably supplying the full power requirements for a 16x card... so i guess that can't be compared to taping the connector (maybe?).

There are 2600Pro video cards that are AGP for about the same price as their PCIe counterparts on NewEgg. I'd probably go that route.

I was actually looking along the lines of a Radeon X1050 or even an X700.
Their both cheaper than any Radeon AGP card I can find.

This is an SD only PC so even a 9550 would work but the PCIE cards are $10 less.

It is an actual x16 slot.
It just only provides x1 bandwidth.

Ok, I read the manual.
It's actually an x16 PCIE slot running at x4 mode.
Acording to the ASROCK website the MB will work with an HD2600XT.

I'm going to assume an HD2400pro will work also.
