Got a traditional outdoor UHF antenna, hooked it up to TV, and scanned for channels. It did just as well as when hooked up to HVR-1250. This tells me that it's most likely the antenna quality and/or height/direction it's pointed. I'm doubting that it's a bug in GB-PVR channel scanning, a HW issue with HVR-1250, or a SW issue with HVR-1250 driver.

Next step is to have someone outside on a cell phone so I can have them put the antenna at different heights and angles while I have the TV scan.

Antenna height and direction has made a huge difference. I found one spot where I got everything crystal clear, but I can't permanently erect my antenna in the middle of the grass by my apartment building. Found another good spot that gets all CBS. Will fiddle with it more this weekend, I may have to settle for no CBS, which isn't a loss to me.

Problem solved! I found a few sweet spots for my antenna while it was attached to the TV tuner. Based on all other data, it had to be antenna location. Found a spot that I could make permanent, switched the coax cable to the HVR-1250, and scanned for channels. GB-PVR found them all, I mapped them, and now everything is happy.

Thank you for all of your patience and help. This has been a learning experience. I'll type it up on a wiki page, especially the SchedulesDirect code after the login name to force that capture source to get only the channels for a particular lineup.

I did find a bug in the channel scanning. It seems that channels were saved from a previous scan (by previous I mean I ran config app, did a channel scan, mapped a few channels, saved and exited the config app). The next time I scanned many of the channels had multiple entries after the scan, and when mapping a selection to a channel, it crashed the config app. I'll reproduce it and post the logs.
