only leave force wait for vertical sync on
fullscreen exclusive will help alot aswell for smooth playback

Cool. So the approach now is to focus on the video card. Thanks as I was lost for options before. Will report back.

Another exercise with sometimes turns up potential sources of stuttering. Try turning off all plug-ins and the web interface then try your system. Then turn each one back on one by one and test again. Sometimes you might find one that slows down your system.

Thanks all. To recap, I had two problems which disguised each other. 1) the video card is weak and 2) issues with codecs.
Resolution: 1) To use the codecs suggested by sub, 2) reduced the 3D demands on the video card and 3) selected the Overlay option.
I now have an acceptable outcome and WAF (We watched a recording last night). Although the on-screen options (STOP PAUSE etc) cannot be selected by the mouse. No big drama, but would be nice to have.
My next step is to replace the video card so I can use the VRM9 option.

Epilogue: I find that my new motherboard has an on-board video outlet and all I needed to do was plug in a connection bracket that was in the box. I have removed the video card and the whole PVR playback is perfect. I am running on VMR9, the video playback is quick, sharp and crisp.
The GBPVR software is performing wonderfully.
The root issue was that I was using an underpowered video card and everything was struggling/suffering.
