HD Recording Different output file Types?

I seem to have a problem on trying to record one of my HD ASTC channels.
It saves the file out as MPG. When I try to watch it it's just snow. This same channel works fine when I just try to watch it live.

A different HD channel is recording just fine. It's file output type extension is DVR-MS

Not a clue into what could be making one channel make an incorrect file extension type.

This sounds like you have analog capture source setup, and it has channels enabled that you dont get.

Check each of your analog capture sources to make sure there are no unexpected channels enabled.

Bingo. I have to use the same ScheduleDirect profile for my over the air and my ASTC reception channels. So the EPG guide shows both SD and HD OTA stations in each recording source. The ASTC channel was enabled in both my SD source and for the HD source. Unchecking the enable box for this channel only in my SD listing fixed the issue.
