Yep... but it's just used for PVR, so it's not doing anything at all.

It could be dual recording (analog + clear QAM) - I've enabled the TS Mux, I'll let you know how that goes.

Well, foo. I recorded a couple shows last night using the TS Mux. Sure enough, got a different file extension. However, audio is still getting out of sync with video over time.

I guess this points to the driver or card itself then?

WOO HOO!

So, checked carefully, and although the files recorded last night did indeed not end in .mpg, they ended in .ms-dvr or something like that... which meant of course I did not have the setting right to use the TS Mux in config.

Actually correctly setting it to "TS Mux" generated a .ts file. I recorded an hour this morning, and.... audio stays in sync to the end. Shweeeet. I'll wait for a few more recordings to come in, but it looks like it may be solved.

Chalk it up to user error.

Question, on what channel did you get the good recordings and what channel did you get the out of sync ones? Also, what MPEG2 decoder are you using?

Same channels (FOX/CBS/NBC/ABC) - only clear QAMs I use. Those are a mix of 720p and 1080i channels. All channels were having sync issues. I've only tested FOX and NBC since making the change to TS Mux (fox is 720p, NBC is 1080i)

Decoder... I have not checked the graph to see what it does for the .TS streams, but I believe the defaults are to use the decoders for the Hauppaugh card + an aac filter. I'll check and post back

Sorry for the delay. If I use Graph Edit on a .ts or .mpg file from a clear QAM record, it says it is using the HCW Mpeg-2 Video Decoder from Main Concept, and the HCW AC3 Audio Decoder -> AC3 Filter.

Config/Playback has:
Video Renderer; VMr9 Fullscreen Exclusive
Mpeg-2 playback V/A both set to Intervideo NonCSS for Hauppaugh
H.264 Decoder is ffdshow
Everything else is System Default

Misc2 tab, BDA Multiplexer is TS Mux

(and yay, subtitles are working too. Misc/Show CC (Intervideo VMR7/9 checked) Getting old, can read better then I hear :p)

ilovejedd Wrote:It's also quite possible that your PC was already having problems writing to hard drive during recording because of heavy fragmentation. I'd say defrag first and do a couple of hour long test recordings before you start changing settings in your system. Better yet, if you have an empty hard drive, format with NTFS with block size 32k or 64k and use it as your recording directory.

So, why is 32k or 64k block size preferred? Won't that use the drive space less efficiently?
