When I was messing with 1.2.13, my channels seemed to automatically get the same channel numbers as provided by the EPG.

Now with 1.3.7 (clean install), my channels get numbered 1,2,3,etc. I have to go in and manually number the channels; it also won't accept ATSC sub-channel names, like 7.2, 50.4, etc. I found I could just assign the same channel number to each sub, but that's hardly ideal.

The question is though, is this a change with 1.3.7, or is there some other reason this is occurring? Also, is there a way to enter a channel like 50.4? I tried 50-4 also, no dice. 504 would work, but then it would be out of order.

GBPVR has never been able to take dotted or dashed channel numbers.

I didn't mean to imply I thought it did, I was just asking if there is *any* way to denote sub-channels in GB-PVR.

I think though I have figured out the difference in the channel assignments I got before vs now. I'm using MC2XML for EPG info; initially I was using the Analog NTSC program guide, as the ATSC guide was not supported on the default listing source. Now, I'm taking advantage of the new option (-t) that uses the TitanTV service to provide a full ATSC guide with subs. The old EPG source probably provided a virtual channel number that GB-PVR was dutifully using, while the new guide probably doesn't so GB-PVR has little choice but to number the channels in order starting with 1.

No, there is no way to have sub channels in the channel number field (and no plans to add it in future)

Is there any negative consequence to simply assigning the same channel number to several channels? (ie, channel 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 all assinged channel number 7) I know I won't be able to directly select any but the first channel, but at least that way they show up in the right place in the on-screen guide.

I'm not near my HTPC right now so I can't check . . . are only numbers allowed in the channel number field, or could you make the subchannels 7a, 7b, etc.?

why not just adjust your favorite channel numbers and use icons so you know which ones are which then they can all be grouped together
giving them all the same number you wont be able to select them

i guess the problem with icons is that entering a number wont work

It's partly a WAF thing. She expects ABC to be channel 7. It's been channel 7 since she was born, it's channel 7 now, and it better be channel 7 on my stupid new media center. The more things I can keep the way she expects, the more likely she'll put up with what's different and perhaps even recognize what's better (that's the true moment of WAF - when she recognizes something is superior... so far all I've gotten as I show her the tricks is "Well, I can certainly see why YOU like it").

The subs themselves are new anyway though, so I may just re-number them separately; in the end no one will really care if 4.4 (Universal Sports) is 4.4 or 404. This ultimately won't be a big deal; I probably wouldn't have even started the thread had I realized why the channel numbering didn't work the same this time (NTSC vs ATSC guide data from different sources).
