I have finally got gbpvr working after much help from sub and tipstir and reven. I am now in need of some tweak help. I would like to know if there is a guide for optimizing gbpvr. I am looking to adjust the display to look sharper. Also I would like to get the live tv to be full screen and not display the toolbar below and the title bar above the tv box. basically just wondering if there is a one stop shop guide for getting this thing all dialed in, or if I should just search this forum. also, wondering about preferred methods for transfering captured video to dvd-rw for viewing on my stand alone dvd player. thanks for all the help,
RS

In the config app, make sure the 'Show in window mode' is not selected, then it play in fullscreen mode.

Different MPEG2 decoders have very different appearances. You'd probably need to try a few to see which one suits you. (usually people respond to this asking for recommendations - sorry, I have no preference, so cant recommend one)

thanks.  I am looking to remove the commercials from the show and burn to dvd-rw.  am I right that the best way to do this is to edit the file with an video editing app and then burn w/ nero or some other writing app (decrypter?)?  I would like to write multiple episodes to one disc using titles, could someone point me to a good place to learn how to do this? I am obviously pretty new to this, I appreciate your help.

I've never really archived my recordings off to DVD. I usually just record, watch, delete. I know a few others do this, and they can hopefully provide some pearls of wisdom.

There is also on-going discussion about making a DVD recording plugin, which will be great and make the job much easier.

Sorry this is such a late posting, but I just saw your post about creating DVDs from your recordings. This is the singlemost factor I had when I got into this video recording stuff (And I'm pretty new to it, but learning VERY fast). I'll give the basics of what I do. If you have more question, I'll be happy to try and answer them.

First off, I've used about every piece of software that came with all my hardware to do DVD Authoring (Ulead Movie Factory, WinDVD Creator, even Nero Express, and etc.), and personally, I don't like a single one of them.

So here are my steps: (I have actually created folders named: 1-Recordings, 2-Uncut, 3-Edited, 4-DVD Folder, 9-Complete, which mimic my steps).

1. Record the MPG (MPEG-2), using GB-PVR of course, or WinTV (for VHS tapes).

2. Rename the recordings to something more meaningful, and copy to the 2-Uncut folder.

3. I use Womble MPEG2VCR (http://www.womble.com/vcr-text.htm). The reason I chose this, is because is FAST, and it does NOT re-encode your MPG. I can cut the commercials out of a 30 minute recording (or 36 minutes in my case since I use 3 minute pre/post padding), and save it to a new "edited" version in about 4 minutes!!!

4. I then use Tsunami MPEG DVD Authoring software to "author" my DVDs. I like this software, because I can save "templates" for each of my "seasons" of shows. Then when I get enough new episodes to fit on a DVD (which for me is about 4 - 1/2 hour shows), I bring up my template and create the new DVD. Here's a tip as well. When you author a DVD, you can create multiple Tracks (or Titles) and then create multiple "chapters" under each Track. I only create one track, and then each episode is a chapter. IF you create multiple tracks, when you press "next" on your DVD player, the counter will start back over at 00:00 (which is cool if you want to do that).

5. Tsunami MPEG has a DVD "burn" process built into it, and I've used it just fine, but I am just used to using Nero to burn my finished DVD folders to DVD. I then make multiple copies as well.

You can also use Womble MPEG2VCR to rip the MPG files back off your already burned DVD (from the .VOB files).

I hope this helps out a little bit...
