Channel Changing on SL65 satbox (UK)

As a noob I've been making slow progress in getting things operational but I can't change channel on my SL65 sat box. I can record using the EPG but I have to manually set the desired channel on the SL65.

I tried uninstalling GB-PVR and using the downloaded Hauppauge "CD" under WinXP-MCE to test but Win-MCE complains that "the graphics card or driver" isn't compatible and eventually freezes before it finishes identifying all the remote codes.

A complication is that my headless server (which I access for Config using VNC) has only VGA graphics so doesn't run PVRX2. I run GB-PVR in client mode on my desktop machine and trust that its settings don't cause any conflicts with the installation on the server.

Anyone have any pointers?

For the benefit of anyone with similar symptoms who finds this by searching the forum, it turned out to look more like a hardware problem in my case.

I tried a Skybox to see if it was the SL65 or SL65 remote causing the problem but got nowhere with that. One of the other things I tried was connecting the blaster to socket 2 on the beanbag.

Channel Changer for the Capture Source is "MCE2005 IR Blaster Plugin". I created a new profile for the device with Blaster2 active and trained it for the SL65 remote.

It took several attempts but I eventually collected a full set of correctly-functioning .bin files in a new IR Definitions\MCE2005\ subdirectory on the server. It seemed necessary to delete the directory after each failed attempt so as to prompt Config to seek training.

I'm leaving it alone for now rather than trying again with Blaster1 as I only want to control one external device and, anyway, only have one blaster.

The builtin 'MCE2005 IR Blaster Plugin' option was never finished (or tested, even once). Instead I've been recommending people use HIP or IRServerSuite. There is some setup info for these on the wiki.

Ah! Congratulations are in order for your inspired pre-alpha code actually working at all!

I had missed your recommendations to not use this - perhaps it should be removed as an option if there are preferred alternatives as the naming of it suggests that it's appropriate for my circumstances. Thanks for the clues.

On second thoughts, perhaps I don't need any more functionality such as IRServer may provide as I don't actually want to use a remote to directly control the digibox via my server - I just want my server to change channel on the box when requests made through MediaMVPs require it (and possibly through a PC client though that seems very slow in operation).

A problem I've found as a noob when roaming around the wiki is that it's unclear just what info has been superseded by changes in more recent versions of the program. I haven't been around here long enough to simply "know", for example, what's relevant only to PVRX2 and what should be ignored as being no longer relevant.

I can't get IRServer to blast at all!

It claims to have caught each code from the SL65's remote but even the "Test" when in the learning process doesn't light-up the blaster so it's no surprise that PVRX2 can't change channel.

Any relevant aspect of current release that's not addressed in wiki - or does anyone have any other hints or suggestions of typical newbie errors/omissions?

In the meantime I'll try to find out about the proper use of HIP.
