Not 100% sure, but this is the most common reason. The only other reason I'm aware of is the user is trying to do it over some type of remote desktop connection, rather than directly at the machine.

This error message could also occur if you have DirectDraw/Direct3D disabled, or the hardware acceleration in your video card not to 'Full' for some reason.

You can check these by (in XP):
1) Right-clicking on your desktop and selecting Properties. Go to the settings tab and click Advanced. Click the Troubleshoot tab. Ensure it is set to Full.
2) Go to Start-->Run and type in 'dxdiag'. Click the Display tab and ensure both DirectDraw and Direct3D are enabled.

This is what fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem. My Video Card does not support Direct3D. Is there a other solution for the error

When I start PVRX2.exe? When I run the TuningAssistant.exe then I can scan the channels but also here I see no Video Screen.

what video card is it?

if VMR9 won't work then your only other option is to use the Overlay renderer.

I have a 'XGI Volari Z7' which is my onboard Video Card of my Asus Server DSBV-DX systemboard. I have four options by Video Renderer in GBPVR:
  • VMR9 Custum
  • VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive
  • EVR (Enhanced Video Renderer)
  • Overlay Manager
By VMR9 get i the above error message (Does not Support the required VMR9 Video render). By all others PVRX2.exe gives no screen and seems to hang.

Assuming you have tried overlay renderer as suggested above, if your card does not support direct3d you will sadly be unable to use gbpvr unless you install a compatible graphics card/mothboard upgrade.

As it is a server do you really need to be able to view GB-PVR on it? It would have been over a year after I setup my server before I even bothered to configure it so I could view GB on it.

I have setup several boxes that have underpowered Video cards, and it works great for a recording-only server. If you are only using it to record and NOT playback, you will be only worried about Tuning card, drive space, EPG...

You can test the quality of the recordings by playback from a PC client on the network share

To run GBPVR on a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) Machine have I give up. I have install it on a client (workstation) machine. With a good Graphics card (supports DirectDraw and Direct3D) and a Audio device. I have now no problems with the screen. But I have no Audio when I watch liveTV or recording LiveTV. Also when I play a recording file on my workstation then there is no Audio. Other MPG files (downloaded) plays with Audio. Its like my TVcard gives no Audio to my Audio card at pc and streams no Audio to my NMT in the livingroom.

Specifications:
  • Windows XP Pro NL SP3 (32bit)
  • ATI Radeon 9200 Video Card
  • Hauppauge WinTV PVR 500 PCI II TV Tuner Card
  • Realtek AC'97 Audio device.

I have do a clean install of Windows XP Pro and make a ghost image, so I can fast back to a clean install. Then I have install all last drivers (video, audio, hauppauge). Also install .NET 3.5 and SP1, Haali - MatroskaSplitter, installer_cyberlink_powerdvd_Nederlands_Dutch and saf400beta17.
As last I have install GBPVR with the 'NMTInstall.exe' left al defaults.
Then try to watch live tv unfortunately without audio.
I have totally no idea what I must done to get it all work...

I have switch between all the settings in the GBPVR config (Playback -> Mpeg2 playback -> try there all options none of them gives my Audio when watch TV).
I'm totally at a loss and have almost lost hope that it will work.... Sad

I hope that there is somebody who can help my to get it work?
Then you can make my day good! See al my other Post I have work a week to get it work with Windows server 2008, Vista, Windows 7 and now hopefully on Windows XP. This is my last try....
