Looking through the recordingservice.log file on the client I saw an error that it could not find \\server\database\config.xml , so the client is trying to use a config.xml from the database share, and not from its own c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\ folder.

But it must be using the local one or where does it get the server share name from?. You don't have more than one config.xml on the local machine?? (that can confuse things).
