I have just replaced my HDD after finding it was not working very well.

I changed the drive letters from the original drive from "D" to "F" and made the new drive "D" then copied all the recordings over.

No my mistake I am guessing was that I had GBPVR running, as now I have lost a lot of recordings from the recorkdings list although they are available throught explorer.

Is there anyway I can recover this so they can be access easily, or do I rename te files to a logical name and move to my video's directory and access from there.

Every so often by default gbpvr tidies up it's database and removes entries that it can't find on disk (there is a config.xml edit to stop this action).
You should have a file "recording-dump.xml" and .bak in the gbpvr directory.
Copy them quick to save them. They get updated each day from the main EPG update. Hopefully yours still has all the data in them. If your recordings are in the same drive/path then you should be able to import this file with config.exe on the plugins tab.
If it happened to long ago and the files have been overwritten with old ones then have a look on the wiki for vidimport for recovery.

...and if you find your database entries are completely unrecoverable, there is always VidImport:

OK, nearly there, the first option was no good as the files must have been over written.

The second solution Vidimport.exe has worked, but not bought in all recordings.

I have a directory with TopGear recordings, it shows this when running the import program but says they already exist in the imdb so skips them.

I would have thought this was just the description but doesnt appear to be so, any ideas?

thanks

Sorry, just thought of something and it now works

I added IMDB=OFF and it imported everything.

Hmmm that's odd it skips the import if it exists in the GBPVR database not in IMDB. Can you post the log for that import and I will take a look?

As I understand it you copied over your recordings to your new drive. In the GBPVR config you have your recordings directory set to your new drive. Have you tried going into "plugins" tab of the config & select "import recordings"? It's worked for me in the past!

you moved the location of the files, so you have to open the rec dump in notepad and replace old path with new one..eg replace D: with F: and then import after saving...Big Grin hmmm, looks like you haven't changed path on second look, so should have worked fine..
that's the best source of backup, so make a copy of that file before it gets overwritten again..[every epg update it gets rewritten]
oh and there's often a backup of previous copy named recording-dump.bak also..
