anyone know how to play mkvs on a xbox 360 or a ps3?

most of my collection is in mkv (i ripped all my dvds to it) but i cant get the xbox 360 (or ps3) to play them, they show up on the xbox, but wont playback.

i just installed tversity and will try that, but that converts them to a wmv file, and since the xbox can play the codec used inside the mkv for video/audio, i would prefer a app just to change the container on the fly (if one exists).

so anyone had any luck with this?

No external homebrew apps that you could use to play mkv?

No idea, was giving you a pointer to google for, I don't have an xbox or ps3 sorry.

is there a ps3 mplayer port? If your Mkvs are HD then I doubt you'dhave a machine fast enough to stream them.

mkv2vob would require me to convert every single video (well not convert, but manually change the container to a vob), was hoping for a on the fly solution

You need to use PS3 Media Server. I use it to transcode MKV realtime to my PS3.
