Hi,

I had a movie scheduled to record from 1am to 3:30 am on an HVR1600. I am using 1.3.11. The dvr-ms file only contains 1:04:09 of video, not the 2:33 that it should have with padding.

It looks like the video stopped getting collected at 2:03am which is when an EPG update occurred. I can't see anything in the log, except that at 3:32am it says that the recording was completed and that matches the timestamp on the file.

attached is the log and some info about the video file.

Any ideas on what happened and how to prevent it? My wife almost killed me after we were watching it and realized that we didn't get the whole movie.

Thanks

Any ideas on why this may have happened? Would the EPG update happening at the same time as the start of the missing video be just a coincidence?

Thanks,

Sorry, I dont know. The app does attempt to handle it gracefully, but its difficult to test every scenario around recordings in progress or padding while EPG updates occur, so I recommend you try were possible to update the EPG at a time when recordings would normally not be occurring.

Yeah, well I thought 2am was pretty safe, and usually is, but every once in awhile an old movie is on in the middle of the night.

Did you glance at the log I sent in the original message to see if you notice anything unusual? There seem to be a huge number of entries during that minute or 2 that the EPG was occurring, but maybe that's normal. And it seemed like it eventually showed a normal message for when the recording was supposed to finish.

I suppose I can try recording another movie that similarly spans that scheduled EPG update to see if I can reproduce it.

Thanks for the reply

As far as I could tell from the logs, it looked like it started recording at 0:59am, and stopped it at 3:32am. It doesnt look like the epg update caused any issues with it.

I wonder if the heavy I/O of the EPG update might have some how caused problems for the DVR-MS mux, which is also trying to do heavy I/O. Hard to guess really. If you can find a way to reproduce it at will, then you could try the same thing with other muxes.
