but I want a utility to run once the recording is finished how can I get postprocessing.bat to get PVRX2 to stop the playback automatically so it won't interfere with the utility's process and I don't have to keep looking at the clock in order to stop the playback manually?

I'm not aware of anything you could do to stop the user from being able to play the file while your process is underway. You could however copy the file somewhere (outside of the video library directories), and do your processing on the copy of the file, and then copy the end back if necessary.
