There's a Graphics\TextBackgrounds\Glossy\Clear but not a Graphics\TextBackgrounds\Matte\Clear
Same for the "Normal" buttons and selectors. Is this intentional?

So a clear version of the matte graphic would effectively be transparent and we've got that all ready

Ahh, so for the CS Blue MVP theme should the normal buttons/selectors be set to the transparent option?

No, I think the matte light graphics.
I think the reason most people would want to use the matte graphics on the MVP, is because it appears to be a little more sensitive to pixel width and as a result the bevel on the glossy graphics tends to strobe. The matte graphics were designed to be simpler and bolder (easier to see). I've updated the MVP theme and added a few previews
