My system has its video library on an external USB hardrive which has internal power down logic. When the drive has powered down there is a significant delay (about 20 seconds, give or take) when PVRX2 tries to access it before the drive becomes ready. PVRX2 handles this happily and just waits. My MVP reboots if I try to access the library with the drive powered down. Once the MVP is back up it can access the library as the drive has also powered up. Then the MVP can then access the library happily until the next time the drive powers down when there is no use for a prolonged period. Other than disabling the drives power management, which I don't want to do, is there any other workaround to make the MVP more tolerant of slow device availaiblity?

I would try the mvpmc dongle. It doesn't timeout in 10 seconds like the Hauppauge dongle.

Thanks Martin, been using it for a week or so. Its fixed the timeout issue, but as the files on the USB drive are not native PVRX2 files, it doesn't like skipping. The original dongle skips fine. At the moment the lack of skip is the lessor of two evils, so thanks again for the suggestion.

Glad it works but actually neither dongle will skip well on files while they are being transcoded. You might be thinking of using the Hauppauge server.

I gave up on the Hauppauge server when I first set up GBPVR around two years ago. If I remember correctly (and its been a long time so I may well be confused) it comes down to a choice of the GBPVR dongle giving you virtually full GBPVR funcitonality on the MVP, with some FastFwd/Skip issues or the Hauppauge server giving you strong media playback, but no GBPVR functionality. Of the two, having 'remote' GBPVR was far more important to me. I assume there is no practical way of being able to choose between the two without having to config the computer hosting GBPVR each time? If memory serves, don't you have to kill the Happauge server on the host machine if you want GBPVR to do its thing? Anyway, thanks again, your suggestion gives me flexibility which is always good.

AFAIK you would have to power cycle the MVP each time, so as to load the different dongle.

To me, it seems the best way to handle the MVP is with GBPVR, and make alll your videos mpegs on the hd. The only downside to that is hd space (cheap nowdays).

The best way to handle this by far is to upgrade to an NMT unless the content is flv.
