Is there a method to permit the 'Standby' function to be added to the Main Menu Ribbon, or to modify the function of the 'Exit' button to allow 'Standby'. Altenatively, a command line string for the 'Plug Ins' tab - 'Custom Tasks'.

This would greatly reduce the User accidently exiting the GB-PVR application and to Windows Desktop, and also reduce the number of menu keystrokes to place the computer in the 'Standby S3 mode'. Using conventional methods such as "Windows Standby' and Command Line usage of 'SetSuspendState" will not function correctly as expected.

Thanks in advance for your response.

For a command-line option you could try "rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState" (without the quotes). If Hibernation is enabled then the PC will hibernate, otherwise it will go into standby. "rundll32.exe" and "powrprof.dll" are both in the Windows System32 folder if you need full pathnames.

or you could download and run a free third party utility such as PSShutdown which can be found at this site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin...97541.aspx (there are a few other useful utilities in the downloadable zip file).

I just set my media pc to do nothing when the "sleep" button is pressed, but to go into standby after 5 minutes of inactivity (from Control Panel / Power). Then I exit GBPVR when I've finished with it and 5 minutes later, iif nothing else is happening, the PC quietly goes to sleep. That way there's no risk that I put it into standby while its trying to record or anything.

Good luck.

Thanks Serafis for the reply. I have tried "rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState", however the computer does not return from the standby state as requested. I stays in standby until the User initiates the command from the remote or the front on/off panel button. I've also tried the various additional commmands (0,1,0....) to see if I could trigger the correct resumption from Standby. No success. As I am writing, I'm test the PsShutdown app, to see if it will do the job.

The command line for PsShutdown = psshutdown.exe -d. I trust this is correct?

Cheers.

I think from memory it's "psshutdown.exe -d -t 0 /accepteula", where -d means "standby", -t 0 means shutdown immediately and /accepteula means don't disply the extremely annoying eula dialog that all of these sysinternal utilities seem to have.

I seem to recall that if I manually put my PC into standby (e.g. by pressing the "sleep" button) it wouldn't wake for recordings and I recall a thread on this - don't know if it was solved though. Maybe powrprof.dll does the same. Hopefully psshutdown won't.

Otherwise, allowing it to fall asleep naturally seems to work 100% though. So what I've done is use IR Serverso I can programme buttons on the remote, set the Green Button to start GBPVR and the Power Button to exit it, set Windows power option so the Sleep button does nothing (so the remote can't put it into standby accidentally), and then when I've finished I just exit GBPVR and let the machine go into standby 5 mins later. When I want to wake it up, I just press the Power button on the remote, then the Green button to start GBPVR. Seems to work reliably.

PCs and especially Windows never quite seem to do what you want them to aye. Good luck, anyway.
