I've been flirting with the idea of some OS core plugins and some UI / metadata / media database / gbpvr info library. Attached is the notes on the ideas I had which have been bounced already to a few developers. All subject to change of course.

reven: How open is the database access? My thought is that a screensaver or photo slideshow could have access to the music DB and saved playlists so you could listen to music while looking at photos. Also, how open is the metadata search. There's a lot of plugins that can use metadata Cinema, TV Guides DVD Ripper etc etc. Makes sense for this to be in a central (easy to use) library.

---------------------------------
I would be interested in using and contributing to the the photos / database / metadata parts.

there is no db for anything other than videos atm. and that is subject to change at any time.

for the metadata, its all open, all configured via an external xml file that will be checked regularly for any updates (so if a source changes, you dont need to recompile and redistribute a dll). it currently only supports themoviedb.org and imdb.com (primarily i only use themoviedb.org). thetvdb has its own interface as that couldnt being added to the xml config for movies (the api differs far too much).

Reven, looking forward to your release of Videos for GBPVR.

Meanwhile I have started to use YAMJ (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/) directly from my PCH. YAMJ is using metadata files (.nfo) to build a webbased jukebox and there are several skins using both posters and fanart (http://www.omertron.com/pch/)

Dont know if you already have been looking at that approach but it might be a source for inspiration.

There are also tools for getting info and posters from both IMDB.com and themoviedb.org (http://code.google.com/p/yanfoe/)
