I can't record from my HD-PVR in GB-PVR.

I've had it working last week, but then I could not playback on my h264 recordings due to my low spec computer.

So I started fiddling around with PowerDVD9 and 8 installing/uninstalling until I got playback working there. Now ARCSoft could not find the HD-PVR so I uninstalled/installed some more until I now can record and view 'live' from ARCSoft.

I've tried to find out exactly where to look but it seems that I get different quirks depending on what I try...

What I have found out:

Selecting a program from the TV-guide shows the correct channel and the picture and sound is fine. Now I can do this a couple of times but sometime even this stops working. (At one time it selected a completely different channel from my HVR-1300 card instead...) Either with having on a black picture or just throwing me back to the TV-guide.

Recording don't work from the Tv-guide nor directly from "live view" (I have not enabled live view in GBPVR).

The top-light on HD-PVR never goes on (as it does when recording with ARCSoft)

The only consistent error I get is this:
Code:
2009-08-21 18:20:16.921    VERBOSE    AnalogHDRecorder::StartRecording('Hauppauge WinTV HD-PVR', 1, 0)
2009-08-21 18:20:16.937    VERBOSE    Adding crossbar filter: Hauppauge HD PVR Crossbar

2009-08-21 18:20:16.984    VERBOSE    device bitrate step size: 100000

2009-08-21 18:20:17.000    VERBOSE    device reports current peak bitrate as: 13500000

I thought I saw that HD-PVR reports bitrate 0 sometime, but I can't see it now.

I know this a lot of loose things but I would gladly take any advice on where to go from here...Rolleyes

Just noticed I did not attach the logs :-(

Here are a fresh set (from rebooted machine) when going from TV-guide to watch a channel, watch a new channel, and then trying to record it. It does not come as far as blasting the IR....

But I now saw a new error ;-)
Code:
Error starting recording: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Length cannot be less than zero.

It looks that I have a misconfigured capture card, but the lightning on HD-PVR stills confuses me.

Should the top-light (on the HD-PVR) go on when GBPVR is recording from HD-PVR?

The light feature of the HDPVR is controlled in the Total Media Extreme software. Under device settings (I think) in the record area there is a box you can check to have the lights on or off during recording. I think it's on by default.

The updated Arcsoft and PowerDvd codecs are not useable in external applications, but I think there is a workaround if someone else wants to give any details or you can go back to older versions, they work fine for me.

Sorry I'm not one for analyzing logs but a 0kb recording could indicate that it possibly isn't set up properly. The HDPVR is the only device that the "Analog Hi-Def" setting in the add capture card area of the config. Double check that setup and see if you can at least get a recording length.

I think this crash occurred because your HVR-1300 capture source has an enabled channel that isnt mapped. If you go into this capture disable this, and any other unmapped channels, this specific part of the problem should go away.

This would have happened because of GB-PVR unexpected behaviour of adding new channels (and marking them as enabled) if found in an xmltv file. It does this for historic reasons, and worked fine with analog, but causes problems with digital capture sources.

Hopefully it was these failed attempts on the HVR-1300 card that made it look like the HD-PVR wasnt working?

Unfortunately I cant answer that. I've only got a very old sample device, and it didnt have any lights at that stage. I'm guessing yes, it would light up.

I thought it did light up when recording from GBPVR before, but as persim says perhaps something in the new version of Total Media Extreme software inhibits control from third party tools.

It would have been a nice feature but I can live without it (or I'll try and fix my IMON display Wink ).

Thanks! I think you are right there. I've removed the offening channels and restarted the gbpvr-recording service and it now looks ok in pending.log

Now I looked at live tv (until my recording kicks in) and I also experienced that the HD-PVR live file ended in .mpg not .ts (like mentioned in this post

Code:
2009-08-25 20:34:19.750    VERBOSE    Filename is C:\Temp\Skitiga jobb_2_20090825_20002100.mpg
Tried another channel
Code:
2009-08-25 20:35:26.312    VERBOSE    Filename is C:\Temp\Mythbusters_2_20090825_20102100.ts
Back to first channel
Code:
2009-08-25 20:37:12.515    VERBOSE    Filename is C:\Temp\Skitiga jobb_2_20090825_20002100.ts

I saw this once before when I could not play a (HD-PVR) recording, the directory hold one small .ts file and a longer .mpg, renaming the .mpg to .ts made it playable so it seemed to be "just" a filename issue...

For historic reasons the recording service also *suggests* a file name with a .mpg extension. When specific recording plugin returns the final filename (not currently logged), it may not have a .mpg extension. A standard analog capture plugin will always return .mpg filename. A digital capture plugin will return either .mpg/.ts/.dvr-ms depending on the mux used. The Analog HD plugin (HD-PVR) will return a .ts filename.
