Now that I can actually do stuff with it, i've hooked up my second tuner.

As a result I now have two DVB-T tuners cards, which can both record digital terrestrial.

The question is, is there any way to make this work in a priority? So, if one tuner is in use, it'll use the second tuner? As there are 3 transponders, I can't assign a card to each transponder.

I know in some other software (eg DVB-Viewer), you can set a preferred card. But from what I can see in GB-PVR, you need to assign channels to only one card.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

In config you should assign each card to an EPG source that lists all the channels it can receive. If they both can receive the same set of channels, then both should be assigned to the same EPG. GBPVR will automatically use the second tuner if the first is in use. GBPVR uses tuners according to the order they are listed in config - from top down for recording and from bottom up for live viewing. You can change the order in config, if necessary.

To add to that .....you can also duplicate a tuner so that it looks like you have 3 tuners in the list you can then have the same tuner at both the top and bottom of the list so that it is prefered for both recording and playback.
The tuner in the middle (in this case your second DVB card would only be used for live TV or Recording if you are either watching something or recording something already.

And to add to that you can even control the channels that each of those "virtual" copies of your tuner has access to - so you can prioritize down to the individual channel level if you want to!

In my case, I had HD on tuner1 for some channels, but not others. I wanted tuner1 used first for recording and watching the HD channels. I also had SD quality for other channels, on that same tuner1 and also on tuner2. I wanted tuner2 used first for those SD channels, so that tuner1 with HDTV would be available and not be in use for SD digital recordings unless absolutely necessary.

You can be as complex or simple as you want. I love GBPVR!

This trick is very cool. I just noticed that channel 21 is noisy on only one of my PVR-150's (it happened to be the default for Live TV). By using this trick, the "good" tuner is now the default for both recordings and live TV. I rarely use both tuners at once anyways.

Trying to put only channel 21 on the duplicate tuner didn't work well for me since changing channels in Live TV preview mode became very slow (like starting Live TV) so I gave all the channels to the duplicate tuner as well.

Edit: This fake tuner hack was screwing up the conflict detection in a number of the plugins I use. I decided to give the fake tuner only channel 21 in the end to minimize the conflict side effects.
