Tonight CSI NY failed to record. I see in teh recordingservice native log that it started, and immediately stopped 2009-12-09 20:58. Looks like identical thing happened to Rachel Ray at 13:58. No failure indicated. In PVRX2, no indication of a failed recording, nothing in pending, whats new, or ready. Just gone. Go to live TV and both channels in question work. Millionaire at 11:28 also same story. Prior night, NCIS recorded fine.

Some reason a stop recording occurring immediately after start, and no record of ever trying.

Now I see in the recordingservice log that it failed:

Error starting recording: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I restarted recordingservice, things seem OK.

This I think happened one other time recently. Will work for days or even weeks, then just up and fail, but no indications other than plain old missing files.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Well maybe I am reading the error wrong but that sounds like you need to run memtest86+ to make sure you don't have failing memory to me. Do a google search on it. FYI it is open source.

The download will be an .iso just burn it to a disk, or I think you can find a floppy version, and then boot off of it. You won't need to do anything else, it will just run and rerun the test until you restart the computer. If you get errors then you will want to look at replacing your memory.

I'll take a look at that. However, we run several other things on the computer, as well as live TV, watch recordings, etc. It is suspicious that it fails the same way at exactly the same point. This did happen a few weeks ago, but not ever time a recording is done.

I recently upgraded to newest GBPVR, but also upgraded my TV card driver at the same time. I suspect a problem with one or the other. Did not have this issue before upgrade.

If the recording service is restarted, it will work for a week or two.

Perhaps I need something that will stop/start the recordingservice once a night. That woudl probably clear this thing.

I will, though, test the memory.

I don't think it actually relates to corrupted memory (not sure why .net shows that error)

Have you checked out

I checked that other thread out, looks similar. This failure does not happen all the time, but once it does, it appears to happen all the time until the recordingservice is restarted. Once if did fail, it failed on several different TS streams.

So, does it still help to capture a full TS? If so, which stream?

Does it make sense that once it fails this way once, it always fails this way?

Since the RS is still running, but unable to record (though able to show live TV), is it possible to have the RS restart itself based on this error? That way the show it just missed woudl start, a minute or less late, but at least start.

Seems a cludge fix, but I don't know what else to suggest.

Usually this occurs after a few days, so I am setting up to bounce the service nightly, but again, that just delays the issue, not fix it.

You'd probably need to identify more of a pattern before I could do anything about it. Like, does it always occur after recording from a specific channel? (ie, could be something in that stream causing problems, then a Full TS for that channel might be useful)

Unfortunately, it has not been very consistent, perhaps once a week. I'll have to go back and look to see if it was consistently after a certain channel. Failure always occurs immediately at start of a recording. Not sure if that means that recording was a problem, or a prior one that may have ended successfully.

For now, I have it cycling RS nightly, as I have lost too many to keep the wife happy.

I haven't touched anything on my PVR PC for months and suddenly on Dec 8th, GBPVR stopped recording shows. I noticed just tonight because I went to watch a show that should have been recorded this past Monday, but was not there. I have many shows in the Recurring list and I tried manually refreshing the EPG but still nothing shows up in my pending list. I can't find any failed recordings and the last show to be recorded on the 8th was recorded in it's entirety.

Similar problems here: After GB-PVR was working perfectly for about a year, it suddenly stopped recording. The symptoms on my system are:

- I only use the web interface. Scheduled but missed recordings were just displayed there as "pending"

- Every time I click on "Restart Recording Service" from the tray icon, the task manager shows that another instance of "GBPVRRecordingService.exe" is started. So e. g. after clicking it three times, four instances are running

- I cannot end these processes from the task manager. There is no error message, they just don't end

- The only way I found to end these processes is by restarting windows

- after a restart, GB-PVR works as usual for about a day. Then it seems to freece again

I just tried to record a show and the recording failed. Please see the attached logs: The recording should start at 2009-12-18 18:35 and to me there's nothing unusual visible in the logs. But there was nothing recorded.

Any ideas?
