Offsite GB-PVR Wiki Test

If I gave access to my site to all of you that care and have responded and with admin and privileges could this be sorted

Or am I going one step too far?

In as much as I am going way out of my depth here but would like to run a GB-PVR Wiki 'mock up' on my server running latest pmwiki engine with those that work on it having access? Just to see what can be done? Someone else has, I believe, has had some javascript errors running pmwiki locally and I have found 'wiki on a stick' almost there but not quite!

But obviously original post still apllies, I would never want this to appear in a search engine, and when I say temporary it could be there for 3 months.

I'm not a php lad good 'ole .html is my thing but am adjusting, slowly, I'm getting old!

Or am I mad :p

You could always limit access using an .htaccess file. That way, a username and password would be needed to see the temporary wiki. Even if you posted the username and password for that section of your server, a robot would not get in to crawl it. You could also limit access based on User-Agent. There are lots of ways it could be done, robots.txt was just the simplest.

I probably don't need simplest here, but something more foolproof! Problem is when it comes to these things I am the fool It is not my area.

Well to start, what web service are you running? Apache, IIS, etc.

Apache on qnap TS101, latest firmware update release was some time ago so not sure which apache v??? [Edit] Will look that up, now!

I'm not sure if you can do an .htaccess override with that device or not. You may need to just limit the IP addresses and have someone request access and give you their IP.

Thanks Whurlston, apparently I can do .htaccess with TS101, my problem as usual is I'm just not a Linux boy (for boy read middle aged man!). I'll have to go away and brush up on some Linux stuff to sort out what I want to do.
