Mapping Digital channels to EPG channels could be easier. Having to select each channel from a long drop down list takes a long time, and it's easy to mess up.

In my case, the first digital channel that matches the EPG channel is always the correct choice. For example, digital channel 15.1 gets mapped to EPG channel 15. Digital channel 18.1 gets mapped to EPG channel 18, and so on.

Having GBPVR automatically map the first matching digital channel would be a good start. From there, you might have to correct a few entries, but it would be much easier than manually selecting each and every channel.

There is some minor improvements in the next release, but I'd have to say its still pretty awkward mapping QAM channels. At the end of day, cable operators dont often broadcast any information to identify channels, so there isnt much GB-PVR can do automatically. Some cable companies do broadcast channels in a logical order that could be used to guess the channel mappings, but unfortunately they're in the minority, and GB-PVR has now way to know if your specific cable companies is one of these.

Thanks, Sub. I guess I'm fortunate, because the digital channel numbers from my provider match the EPG numbers. I have only 56 channels, and two tuners. I can't imagine mapping hundreds of channels.

So, when will that new version be available?

Hopefully in the next couple of days. I've just got to get over the flu and fix a few more things.

Hi Sub,

I am in the process of rebuilding my HTPC onto my old Silverstone Rig as my newer rig blew up. Anyway I am going through the process of remapping channels and seeing as this thread is here I though I would post a few observations.

As you both agree the whole process is very akward.

I ran the channel scan process last night at around 7pm. I mapped each channel to EPG channel name.
When choosing the channel from the mapping dropdown it would be nice if the list box could be in alphebetical order.
Also sometimes I have added a channel to the EPG but the channel itself has not been found in the scan. Once you have clicked on the mapping dropdown you have to choose something, even if the channel you want is not available. It would be good to have a blank option at the top of the list box. I got round this problem by choosing the channel from the top of the list and then disabling the mapping.

This morning I have run the scan again as I wanted to pick up the kiddie channels that were not broadcasting last night.
The rescan found the extra channels no problem. However in the mapping dropdown I now have multiple entries for most of the channels.
I have no idea which ones to select! (The Digital Channels found during Scan does not have duplicates)
As I am in a boundary area I have selected "All Regions" so I guess that some may be from different transmitters.
What would be really useful is more information to allow me to choose for example the signal strength and some way of me being able to tell the difference, even if just the frequency information.

I have been using GBPVR for ages and it is an excellent app. I suspect that this screen is a barrier to new users though. Setting up GBPVR is nowhere near as easy as mediacentre, which is nowhere near as good as GBPVR :-)

Cheers
Nick
