Last try for awhile. With your patch installed I started a recording. While the recording was in progress, I tried to watch LiveTV and I got the error "Unable to communicate with recording service" on the first attempt to watch LiveTV. Don't guess this gives you any clues or insight? (asking because it's the first access on the 2nd tuner, but gives the same error message).

If I try to record with both tuners I get a system crash. I have two HDHRs now, but up till now my testing has been only with two tuners on one device. I changed the priority so that HDHR 1 tuner 1 was the first in the list, and HDHR 2 tuner 1 was the second in the list. I also disabled all other tuners to make sure one tuner from each device was being used in my tests. The results are the same, system crash with two recordings, "Unable to communicate with recording service" when initialting LiveTV with a recording in progress.

Have a little more information for you. You previously mentioned something that the problem could be the HDHR not releasing the tuner. Don't know if this helps or not, but the following shows the results of running the command:

Does this look like the tuner is being released properly? If so, is there any more info I can get that may help narrow down the problem?

Yeah, that looks like it's being released. Have you tried repairing the BDA components from the HDHomeRun Setup (Advanced tab)? I can't remember if you did or not.

Yes, many times but it didn't help.
