CPU takes off on 0.90.1?

Have seen this twice now, although I wasn't paying all that much attention the first time and so am not sure if it's related...

Have GBPVR, GBPVR MVP, and the recording service all running. I've removed all of my Hauppuage software except for the drivers and the Intervideo. All seems to work together just fine.

However, at the 1 hour mark when my screen saver (My Pictures SLideshow) goes off, the CPU runs to about 99%. Pictures are on a different disk from where the TV recordings are supposed to go in an attempt to minimize just such an interaction.

I double-checked my Config, and did notice that I had the web server option turned on, so I've turned that off to see if that helps.

SO, am wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this?

Also, am wondering if there is some way to tell GBPVR to only use up to X% of the disk on the off chance I'm getting the disk too full (though I doubt that since the recordings disk has over 100 Gig free)...

Well, I've played with this some more, and have been able to determine that it wasn't the screen saver - at least not directly.

Instead, it appears that after some extended period of time, the GBPVR Recording Service spawns a second instance, and then the CPU goes to 100%. Killing the service does clean up the issue, so the machine isn't locked up - just very, very busy.

Last night I tried just starting the GBPVR-MVP and the normal GBPVR without invoking the recording service. Everything "seems" fine, but I have no scheduled recordings at this point.

So, if I'm running GBPVR directly should I also have the Recording Service running? What is the "impact" of not doing so?

To the extent anyone cares, I still have this problem with .91.8 which isn't a major problem as long as I remember to kill the recording service after a reboot before starting up GBPVR.

Is there anyway for GBPVR to see if an instance of itself is already running before starting up another thread?

If you're using 2k or XP, the reocrdinbg service comes on a service when you boot. Take it out of the startup folder if you have an instance there. If it's set solely as a service, I don't know that it can spawn multiple instances.

For recording service to go to 100%, I believe it needs to be recording. Someone correct me, but I don't think it runs for any other reason. That being the cace, check your recorinding folder. Also check that you don't have scheduler plugin installed w/ its default demo programs included (I think letterman and others are there).

Lastly, it will also run if you're watching TV in timeshift mode. It you're not stopped TV properly (and there is a bug related to this about to be patched), it will keep running.

Have removed the GBPVRTray that was in Startup. I assume that's what you're talking about.

You want the tray in startup. It would be GBPVRRecordingService.exe that would be duplicated in both, if that were somehow happening (which would take a deliberate effort). I don't think the tray icon can generate that much activity, unless a 2nd instance created a separate connection to recording.

If you start and don't have the tray, put it back.
