Hi there,

Just did a format/reinstall of XP and installed the most recent release of GB-PVR (GBPVR09516) and found that it takes up to two minutes for the config application to close once I click OK.

I think this is abnormal behaviour as it never did this before.

RGDS & TIA

I'm using the latest version of GB-PVR (installed yesterday from a fresh download), and am having the same issue: when I either click OK to save a Capture Source, or OK to save and exit out of Config, Config takes over a minute to perform the save.

After Config's done saving I can start GB-PVR normally, but that long pause makes trying out settings, etc. very tedious.

My machine is an Athlon XP 2800 (2.1 GHz), with 512 MB of RAM, and ~30GB free on my main drive, with ~160 GB free on my "recordings" drive. I'm running Windows 2000 SP4, patched to a fare-thee-well via Microsoft Update, and my cap-card is a Hauppauge PVR-150 (not MCE).

Please let me know what other information I can provide that might help diagnose this issue.

Thanks! This board is a fountain of info!

Same here - I believe it has to restart the recording service.

And when configured to use the Access database, it compacts the db.

Okay, a little more information. Here are my logs and config.xml, zipped, from this morning's attempts to A) save and exit config.exe (8:42:51.125ish), and B) access the TV Guide from with GB-PVR GUI (8:44:28.468). The TV Guide access took the better part of 11 minutes!

Another possible factor: I'm a DirecTV subscriber, and via Zap2it I've grabbed all channels for 13 days. My gbpvr.db3 file is nearly 44 megabytes (it zips to 8 MB if you'd like a copy, sub), so if there's something inefficient going on there then that might explain some of the slowdown.

A) mine closes within about 10 seconds, but I've added some logging messages in the next release which will tell me which step during this activity is taking so long for you guys

B) This does not happen when the user hits the OK button in the config app, so its unrelated to this issue - that said, 13 days worth of data for 577 channels is quite significant. I'm sure you could easily trim that down to only channels you really watch to speed it signifincatly. I'm also not really that concerned how long this aspect takes, since it normally happens in the background with the automated EPG updates, and not some thing the user has to sit and wait for,

What is it that normally happens in the background with the EPG updates? To clarify, what I'm trying to do is open up the TV Guide so I can browse it, which results in 11 minutes of unresponsive GUI before I even see the grid. If I wait it out, go back to the main menu and then return to the TV Guide it's instant, but if I exit GBPVR.exe completely and come back in, the wait will recur on my first access.

I will certainly cut my channels down (it won't be hard), but if I winnow things down to 50 channels (10% of the current total), won't that still leave me a minute or more after my first "TV Guide" press before I get control back?

Is that normal? Would going to something like the TV Listings plugin (that does background loading of guide data) or Xrecord help?

Thanks so much... I feel like I'm close to having everything working!

Sorry, I thought talking about how long the EPG update was taking.

It shouldnt take that long before you can see the tv guide. With 90 odd channels and a week of listings, the tv listings finish loading in the background within about 10 seconds of starting GB-PVR, giving me the tv guide grid pretty much straight away (particularly if GB-PVR had been running at least 10 seconds before I clicked the tv guide button).

I wouldnt think your larger number of channels and days would account for the difference between 10 seconds and 11 minutes though. I'm not sure why you'd get that. Maybe you were running low on memory?

I'll check again, but I had Task Manager going while making the attempt at one point, and didn't see any particular spike in memory or CPU usage during the 12 minutes. I've got 512MB of RAM, and the Commit Charge was around 250 if I remember. I'll cut my channels down and check again, though.

I guess there's nothing indicative in the gbpvr.exe.log file, then. Bummer.

try installing something that will let you monitor disk activity, my personal favorite is samurize, just google it. but it takes a bit of configuring to get it to do exactly what you want... but youre used to that already:p
