New install and have a few questions...

Just installed NPVR on my Windows 7 PC to use with my PCH A-110 and it seems to be functional but I have a few questions.

#1 How do you make it so the html file works thru a share? I tried creating the share and left the share name blank when creating it but it still doesn't work. I load the html file, choose npvr via browser and it says request cannot be processed. If you browse to the share manually, it works fine.

#2 How do you schedule the EPG update automatically? I created the script UpdateEPG.bat and put in the necessary commands. If I click on the update epg in the GUI, it works but not sure if it will update automatically and at what time.

#3 How do you load some sort of skin for the videos? I want something similar to YAMJ that has posters and video info.

#4 How do you remove the commercials from the recordings? I used to do this using mythtv (had to flag the commercials and transcode it to a new file without the commercials) but not sure how to do it with this software. Is it difficult to set up?

#5 How do you make it so NPVR client loads automatically on the PCH?

#2 - you set the epg update time on the General screen in Settings; at the appointed time it will run your UpdateEPG.bat and then load the resulting xmltv file into the database. the epg update time defaults to 3am I think, so it's probably already working.

#3 - presuming you have the posters and video info in place, some of the alternate skins will show this info in the videos library. See the npvr sticky (linked in my sig); the 3rd post has pointers to all the skins. They're all in the wiki as well: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage.

#4 - npvr will read a comskip .edl file during recording playback and automatically skip the commercials. Beyond that, it's up to you to configure comskip. in the npvr sticky, see the section in the 3rd post about batch files; I've linked to my postprocessing.bat.

I recently read a post on the NMT forums saying these forums aren't very helpful, that people just send people to the wiki, and I guess that is truer than I thought, even I am going to do it now. The NPVR wiki however isn't very complete so I suggest you follow the excellent GBPVR wiki pages on comskip http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/ComSkip and on the EPG http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/EPG and if you have questions you can post. Note for CA (California or Canada?) NPVR doesn't support Schedules DIrect directly yet.

I'll have to come back to this after Thanksgiving when I have more time but I am starting to understand it.

Looks like the EPG update is okay as is. I'll let it run for awhile and see.

#1 might require me to telnet into my nmt and I'm not sure if I have that installed right now.

#5 depends on #1.

I have been playing around with #3. I loaded a couple of skins but took me a while to figure out how to change the view (meaning arrow up, select View and look at the different ones). I copied some pics and chose the right names and created an xml file. Not sure why I can't see the pic and read what's in the xml at the same time. Might be the skin I chose. I'll play around with it.

I'll deal with #4 last. I'll take a look at the wiki.
