What to Install?

I am very new to this PVR activity. I am aobut to install my new PVR350 and would like to know a couple of things that I can't seem to see clearly in the manual and quickstart etc. etc.
1. Do I need to install the Wintv/TV2000 software that comes with the Haupauge PVR350? If not absolutely necessary, is there any advantage to installing this software anyway?
2. What is the advantage of installing a frontend like GBPVR rather than just using the software from the commercial Hauppauge TV card?

dont put the hauppauge cd anywhere near your computer!!!! the drivers are really crap, a real pain to get off of your machine. go to http://www.shspvr.com and download their latest drivers for the 350, the latest ones have pretty much solved all the lockup issues with the 350 (not completely on all systems, but generally 350s are working much better now).

dont use the hauppauge drivers!!!
