You might need to install the entire directX system. The runtime version doesn't always take, at least for me. The full version is 100 MB, this is the filename of what I am using:

directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

You should be able to find it on MS site.

The X300 may not be sufficient for US HD video. Should be OK for SD, however. My old Radeon 9600Pro was barely useable; I'm not sure how the X300 compares to that.

If possible you should try a newer graphics card, I'v had good experiences with the ATI crads and some high end Nvidia.

directx_Jun2010_redist.exe is the program I installed. I have used the ATI TV wonder before on this computer in non HD format but the program it came with sucked. In the devices menu I see the card still and can scan channels on it but when I scan the HDhomerun unit nothing comes up in the scan. If I try to watch TV the program goes into an error loop that I have to force quit the program to get out of...

Na, I was talking about ATI graphics cards, not the capturecards from ATI.

Spyhunter42,

appears to me that you have 2 distinct issues here at the moment?

As the honourable Reddwarf said old card etc. I am a dinosaur myself and have tried running old graphics cards under XP with NextPVR. To date I have not yet had one that does not say that DX is NOT installed, when it is installed. But unless the machine you have is NOT capable of rendering in software for what you need it to do it should not be an issue...

As to the error loop and unhandled exception etc never hurts to post your log files to see what the issue may be?

part way down

cheers

the x300 should be fine, at least as far as directx goes... whether it plays video well is another question, but it shouldn't be too bad; I've tested npvr on far worse. you can also try the directx sdk 9 web installer (the one linked in the wiki). there have been scattered reports of people who couldn't seem to make this error go away. it's nothing to do with npvr though; nvpr makes a direct3d api call, windows returns an error, and that's it. there's nothing npvr can do, other than revert to software rendering which it does.

this issue will not stop you from using NPVR. you should post a new thread with your other problems as they have nothing to do with the directx issue.
