Very nice!
I wish there had been a concise guide like this when I was starting out. The EPG can be a major stumbling block for newbies. But why stop there? Should you not also explain the reduced channels file (chl) and combining multiple locations(zips) into one xmltv file. I use three different US zips to download only about 20 channnels total(I'm not downloading listing info for about 100 others that I don't need) because I find the Canadian souces for listings do not have as much detail. I know this is all explained on the MC2XML web page but it would be good to have the whole process explained by one voice at one time.

Thanks for the compliment. I wanted to keep this guide as simple as possible while also explaining what the settings do. The more advanced stuff I left for the user to explore on the mc2xml website. This guide is to get up and going quickly.

Nice guide, except why are you telling people to manually update the epg file by running the update.bat program a few times a week? If you rename update.bat to updateepg.bat and put the file in the [NPVR DATA]\Scripts directory, NRecord will run the batch file for you before the EPG update each night.

I didn't know that trick. I will update the guide for that. Thanks!

Hey BT Justice
Will this work in New Zealand or is based on US epg

it works anywhere Microsoft has listing data for media center. I don't know if that includes NZ, but it's certainly not US only.
for NZ dvb-t I know you can use epgcollector (linked in the tech support sticky), and the rest of BTJustice's guide will apply the same.

As far as I can tell, NZ is not currently supported by mc2xml. I am not sure if that is because Microsoft doesn't have TV listings there or if it is mc2xml just not having NZ. You might e-mail the developer whose e-mail is at the very bottom of the mc2xml webpage.
I understand that this is an old thread, however, I have a question. I came across your mc2xml walk-through and I am having some trouble. I am running the latest NPVR 3.1.1, have a HDHomeRun. When I double click on the device, there is no import button. However, there is an "import channels" button on the devices screen, but it cannot work because it says it was not created with the export button. Any ideas on how to get it to work?
Thanks <EDIT> After some looking, I have found how to do it. I have a digital tuner (HDHomeRun) and it follows a different path. mc2xml websites explains it. http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/#npvr

When creating the file using:
D: cd "D:\mc2xml" '''mc2xml.exe -d 168 -o TVGUIDE.xml -s -6''' Do we need the quotation marks? Is the third line nessesary. ? |
