Been having occasional problems for some time with NPVR hanging (not responding and need to kill via task manager) while deleting videos from the video list screen. Also getting the odd 'unhandled exception' when scrolling in video lists. I think it is connected to when there is fanart/folder/episode metadata/jpg files present. The same symptoms on both 2.4.3 & 2.5.5 and also after reinstalling Windows.

However, as it hangs nothing useful seems to be in the logs, so before I post them, is there any settings to increase logging to the maximum to see if I can get something interesting before the hang? NPVR seems to default to debug logging and I also think I can put <ExtendedLogging>true</ExtendedLogging> in the General (not MVP) section of config.xml but is there anything else that can be done? Thanks

Except for <ExtendedLogging>true</ExtendedLogging> there is nothing more in npvr, to my knowledge. But it might be an idea to have a look at windows' event viewer and see if anything stands out at the time npvr hangs.

Thanks, as I thought. Nothing in the Windows event logs other than the single uninformative event stating NextPVR has hung.

Done some further testing and I can get it to hang often on deleting when episode metadata (episode .nfo & .jpg files) is present (The episode video and metadata files are deleted though). I scrape metadata using Ember so will stop using that for now and run without metadata for a bit. Seems OK when only non-episode specific metadata is there (e.g. folder.jpg, tvshow.nfo) but have only done limited testing on that.

Attached the logs but don't think they will add anything. I was hoping others might have seen something similar. Thanks

UPDATE:
I think it is down to using .nfo files rather than .xml files. Though .nfo files are not stated as being supported by NPVR they have worked but it seems they might be causing the crashes. I need to do some more testing as I forgot that everything gets cached in the thumbs folder so my previous testing was probably not accurate. If it is true it is a shame that .nfo files don't work as all the scrapers available (Ember, Media Companion etc.) seem to produce these (along with .tbn thumbnails) rather than .xml files (as that is what XBMC etc. use). The only way I see to easily create the .xml files for each episode is to use the old standalone version of WizMetadataGrabber that was written for GBPVR and no longer supported.

Thanks, good news on nfo files. Now I've remembered to clear the thumbs folder while testing I've narrowed the problem down to fanart.jpg files. I have a show/season folder structure and if I have any show or season fanart then it hangs often when either deleting or also escaping back. Not a problem for me now as I'll just run without them but thought I would close off this thread.
