HD Homerun: NPVR scans channels but finds none

Windows XP
HD Homerun installed and finds all channels
Installed NPVR
Installed latest patch for NPVR
Tried with HDHR application set to both NextPVR and Other
Firewall disabled
NPVR sees the HDHR device(s)
NPVR does channel scan, steps through channels (slowly), but never reports finding any.
Logs attached.
Any help appreciated.

Your log shows all the usual signs of a firewall blocking communication (signal lock and good strength reported on many channels, but no data ever delivered to the app). I know you said you disabled the firewall, but with the HDHR this problem is ALWAYS the firewall. The only other issue that causes this is the HDHR application setting, which you've already addressed. Other users have reported that even after disabling their firewall it was somehow still blocking some things, or they discovered they had a second firewall. Rather than disabling your firewall, try explicitly allowing NextPVR.exe, NRecord.exe and NDigitalHost.exe through the firewall, and double-check that you don't have another firewall installed.

I find that NDigitalHost.exe always ends up being the culprit. I had forgotten this and recently upgraded to W8 and could not get this to work until I gave firewall access to NDigitalHost.exe.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Before disabling the firewall, I first tried adding exceptions for:
NDigitalHost, NextPVR, and NRecord. That didn't work, and those
exceptions are still in place (FWIW) even though the firewall is turned off.
There's no anti-virus software. The suggestion of turning the firewall
back on, unsurprisingly, produced no change.

I guess I can re-try everything I've already tried.

Given that NPVR appears to be interrogating the device and
causing it to change channels correctly, can you tell me what
port/protocol would have to be blocked to cause it to fail
like this?

Retrying everything finally got the channel scanning to work.
If I had to do it all over again, I think I would unplug the HDHR
every time I rebooted. This sure has the feel of a network
caching gremlin to me, and I did walk away for several minutes
before the retry that worked.

At the moment, HDHR is set back to "Other", but I think I will
set it back to "NextPVR" just to see if that setting really made
a whit of difference.

You don't need to do this. You would only need to do this if you want to label the channels and inject names into the CVCT for QAM channels.

ah I was thinking of the HDHR Prime in Cable Card mode. It does have to scan for npvr to find channels.
