Okay so I'm using DVBT as well as DVBS and my DVBT tuner picks up two muxes with the same channels one that has a week signal.

I renamed and renumbered all the channels with the week signal and set up a group to show only the channels I wanted to see. Thing is though if I set up a recording on channel 1 I later find it has recorded on the 5001 channel (which I renumbered). It looks like this will force me to delete the offending channels but I thought I would ask here first if anyone knows of a reason why this would happen?

The answer depends on the rule you are using for recording.

The answer is kinda in the question ... Channel Groups are only about what you see in the Guide. Groups don't affect recording.

I'm not sure I've encountered rules. I set the priorities of the tuners but haven't spotted anywhere that I can choose the priority of a particular tuning....

I'm using the groups to filter what we can see, but I need to stop the box picking the naff frequencies to record on. I had assumed if you select record this on this channel then it would use the channel in the guide, instead it picks up one of the weak channels that isn't even named or numbered the same.

The challenge is there is no way to pick out which is which and often the weak one is still strong enough to work. I had thought I would rename the channels until I was sure that was the weak channel, but it seems this is still messing up.

Have to say overall though NextPVR is being much swifter and more reliable than the Windows Media Centre I have been using for the last three or four years....

Did you recreate the rule after renaming the channel? The display name could be cosmetic

I'v been struggeling with much of the same problem here, I'v found that the only sure thing is to delete the weak channels from their respective tuner. Better to know that you cannot record than expect a recording and get disappointed when the recording turns out to be just crap... Wink

I would expect that it should work this way ... In Settings ... Channels ... Pick a channel, right click and Unmerge, repeat for all occurrences of that channel in the Channels list (if the channel is in the list more than once) (it may be that there are no merged channels). Rename and renumber the channels ... you might finish up with two channels called BBC1 and two channels called BBC1W (W = weak). Click on a BBC1 channel to highlight it ... CTRL and click on the other BBC1 channel ... right click and Merge. Click on a BBC1W channel to highlight it ... CTRL and click on the other BBC1W channel ... right click and Merge (if you have only one BBC1 or one BBC1W then the merge is unnecessary).

I would expect that NextPVR will now see that you have two different channels BBC1 and BBC1W. I would expect that if you select BBC1 in the Guide and record a show on that channel it will only record on a "strong" channel.

I suspect that you have already done all this and you are not getting the result that you want. It may be that the database has got in a pickle and deleting the npvr.db3 and starting over might be required.
