Hi everyone. Thx for your patience with another Newbie here.
1) First time install under Win 10 (I read some ppl using Win 10)
2) 1st run = no video, no audio, Guide is 100% "No Show" entries
3) Only Decoder choice I have is "MS DTV - DVD" (for vid & aud)
4) I enabled that Decoder in audio section and that got me good audio
on all channels
5) Now I have audio on all channels, no video on any channel, and
all Guide entries are still labled "No Show"
I play music, disks, vids, movies all the time with no codec problems
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice

NextPVR does not provide program guide information. The forum is full of people saying that Schedules Direct is the best option for the US though there is a small charge. Other options are to use something like zap2xml to download listings and create an xmltv file that NextPVR can read. I am told that this is a bit out of date but might still be relevant ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ulesDirect plus there is ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ration.EPG

Missing video and/or audio is almost always a decoder thing. Many of us use SAF ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post414049 ... Send a forum private message to Hoborg and ask for the "unlocked" version.

Regarding TV Guide, don't waste your time on the free mc2xml grabber (see "MC2XML does not work anymore" sticky). Graham's recommendation is one way to get a good MPEG2 video decoder for free, but does seem a bit like overkill. I'm not running Win10, but something in your post really caught my eye:

Are you saying that the Microsoft decoder now works for the AC3 audio used by U.S. digital channels? (That wasn't true for Win7/8.) Was your Win10 an upgrade or clean install?

Thx Graham & Zeb for sharing your knowledge (Prob doesn't matter but I am in USA - East coast - Time Warner Cable). Ok Zeb 1) Mine is an Win 10 Pro UGrade from Win 7 Ultimate. 2) After channel scans I checked decoders...see attached jpg of my default settings. I chg'd Audio AC3 to MS DTV DVD (after that I got good audio on every channel). I had never tried prog on any other OS...This is my 1st NextPVR install. Thanks again for the help.

if you upgraded from Windows 7 ultimate, it is my understanding that you may be able to force use of the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder. in the npvr data directory (c:\users\public\npvr), right-click on config.xml and select "Edit". Find the line (towards the end, in the <Decoders> section) that says:
Code:
<DecoderMPEG2>Disabled</DecoderMPEG2>
and change it to exactly this:
Code:
<DecoderMPEG2>Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder</DecoderMPEG2>

let us know if that gets video going. if not, there may not be any better choice than to use SAF.

(exit NextPVR before making that change, of course)

I am not sure where you are at now. Is everything working okay? Typically, I would expect you to be receiving MPEG2 video and you would need to specify a MPEG2 Video decoder. It may be that the only MPEG2 decoder on your machine is the Microsoft video decoder and it may be that Microsoft have hobbled their video decoder so that it won't work with third party apps on Windows 10. But ... the video that is being received and recorded by NextPVR is decided by the tuner and we don't know what tuner you are using.

Thanks guys. I made the edit that Johnson suggested but didn't work for me. After the edit...and still no video I exited PVR and rechecked the xml file and it reverted to a 'disabled' state (I made 2 attempts). I have sent an active PM request to Hoborg about SAF.

AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.20 GHZ

sorry that didn't work, there was a thread a week or so ago about some people being able to force use of that decoder on Windows 10, and it seemed to be related to whether the user previously had Windows Media Center installed which Ultimate would have. the results didn't seem entirely consistent though.

we do know that microsoft crippled that decoder in windows 8/8.1 so that it won't work for 3rd party programs, so that's why it doesn't appear in the list in Settings even though it's there (it's blacklisted). The same is true of Windows 10 if it's clean installed or upgraded from 8/8.1. Upgrades from 7, or 8/8.1 with media center, seem to be the wildcard.

I read somewhere also that if you upgraded from a version of Windows that had Media Center, then in Windows 10 there's a Microsoft DVD player app available for free in the store which may in turn get you a non-crippled version of the decoder. Unfortunately if you don't qualify for the free app, then it costs $15 which seems a bit steep.

So if you can get that DVD Player app for free, give that a try and then force the Microsoft decoder again (make sure you don't go to Settings->Decoders after hand editing config.xml, it may revert the setting).

Thx Johnson for the addition info. 1) The Win 10 Store has 2 players...MS for 14.99 and Media Mobile Tech for 10.99. 2) Several MS pages say the free player was supp. to be auto installed to qualifing upgrades thru Win Update but I found numerous complaints about some ppl not getting it. It's KB3081704 and I can't find it in my updates so I guess mine is MIA also. I'll post later but need to mull all this over and decide which path to take. Thanks

I upgraded from normal Win 7 not Ultimate but my good results are here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post491442 It is a pain because NextPVR keeps disabling it on me.
