The Ceton devices are compatible with NextPVR, but only for copy-freely channels (same as every other app except WMC). For some cable users this gives them pretty much all their channels. Some other cable companies are more painful and encrypt pretty much everything. Some give you somewhere in-between....so how useful this NextPVR Ceton support is will vary depending on your cable company.

Supporting the encrypted channels in NextPVR would cost in the order of US$100K, which a free app like NextPVR can obviously not afford to cover.

Thank you. But it does seem like we are interchanging different concepts between encryption and copy protection. Encryption is just the signal delivery being protected and the cable card is suppose to decrypt that, but then there can ALSO be a copy protection flag in the signal that prevents the recording...This is my understanding.

Problem is the cable company won't tell me what is copy protected and what is not, but they are encrypting everything. So I have to waste the money to try the tuner if I want to find out if I can receive and record anything.

I think I understand now that as long as they are not sending a copy protection flag in the signal I should be able to automatically receive and record the signal with an infintv pcie card with the cable card installed.

Thank you for your help!!! I really do appreciate all your work and have used NPVR for a few years and encourage others to do the same. And yes, I have contributed. If I win the lottery you will get some big bucks, maybe even pay for that copy protection featureSmile
