I am using next PVR 3.5.7 in the USA, with OTA EPG. Many of my scheduled recordings fail. I've tried various scenarios to find what works.

If I keep the computer awake, and the main next PVR program running (not just NRecord), and the scheduled recording is made on a show with populated EPG data, it usually works. I've had one fail in this case.

If the computer is asleep, or the main next PVR program is not running, or the scheduled recording does not have populated EPG data, it usually fails.

I particularly don't understand why scheduled recordings without the EPG show name data fail. The scheduled recordings are set for daily or weekly recording, not using smart logic to detect episodes . The reason that EPG is often not populated, is I have to leave it the computer on overnight EVERY night to update the EPG. I don't like to leave the computer on a lot when I'm not using it, due to the fan noise.

Logs are attached.

Thank you!

[I work for Schedules Direct]

I think you're running into the reality of EPG via EIT in the United States. It's pretty terrible. For many stations, they'll often just have the next 6 hours, maybe 12. Some may go out to a day or so. From day to day, the same program may be subtly different, so it's always "New" even if it's a repeat, because someone typed a slightly different description.

That's why Schedules Direct exists. We have between 14 and 30 days of data for stations in the U.S., so if having updated data is important to you, but you don't want to keep your computer on all the time, you can turn it off once you've downloaded data. The next time it wakes up it can ask our servers if there's any new schedules or programs. If there aren't, then there's nothing else that it needs to do and you can shut it down again.

We have a 7 day trial, then a 2 month option for $6, or a full year for $25. I think you should at least consider trying the 7 day option. If you're a Schedules Direct subscriber and the schedule that we send you is incorrect, then there's a way to get it fixed: you open a ticket, and we can go back to the station to figure out what's happening on your behalf. And because NextPVR has a native Schedules Direct interface, I believe it's pretty easy to get configured, and there are lots of other users of NextPVR that are already using our service, so there's a "deep bench" of expertise.

If you want an EPG, I'd go with Schedules Direct as mentioned above. If you don't care about having an EPG, and just want recordings to happen at a certain each day/week, then schedule your recordings using the 'Man-Rec' button at the top of the Recordings screen (rather than from the TV Guide).
