npvr as client; Database share?

I must be overthinking or overlooking!

When setting up a client on a Windows 10 network; I am at settings>Devices, I have entered the IP for the server; what form do I use for the database share?

I've tried c:\Users\Public\NPVR and several other forms.

I seem to be too dumb to figure this out and the wiki seems to think everybody knows.

You should have the NPVR data folder set up as a share on the server - point it at that along the lines of \\serverIP\sharename or \\servername\sharename.

Since it lives in Users\Public it is already shared; but the client cannot find it. Kodi app has no problem.

In Properties it shows a network path; when I use that it cannot find the database.

Same thing when I use a Windows 7 machine as a Server.

In Windows Explorer, the same \\server\share, should show you a directory containing npvr.db3. If it doesn't then you've not entered the correct share name in NextPVR. ie, it's looking in the share you've specified for it's npvr.db3.

Depending on how you've got the shares setup on your server, you might need a path like \\server\users\public\npvr

I'm seeing the same issue on my desktop PC that although it has the client on it, is hardly ever used. In fact, this is probably the first time I've tried since updating the media PC to Windows 10. I've updated the client (on Windows 7) to 3.6.6 and now:

[ATTACH=CONFIG]41514[/ATTACH]

You can see it mapped happily enough to the share in the Explorer window, but NPVR won't connect. Hopefully it's something simple and/or nothing a clean install won't fix...

Actually in my case the message is misleading - it *has* connected and does its client thing just fine. But the message appears for some reason.

Today when I type the path it finds the database...(sausage fingers?) but I get the same "unable to communicate" message sometimes or "please wait" when I click Live TV.

I should add that all 3 computers have fresh 3.6.6 installed. Windows 10 HTPC (no tuner), Windows 10 (2 tuners), Windows 7 (1 tuner).
