Hello all,

I'm having a problem I've not encountered before. I have a recorded show that's 2 hours long. It plays back fine until about the 30 minute mark, but then suddenly jumps ahead to about the 1:30 minute mark (I'm rounding off here). It plays back the same way every time. In addition, it seems to play back the same way outside of NPVR, so I don't suspect any problem with the software itself. Seems like there's something corrupt with the file itself? Just wondering if anyone out there has ever encountered this, and if there's any way to get the file to play back without skipping ahead as I've described.

It sounds like maybe your device lost the signal for a while, so this bit of the show never made it to disk.

What device were you using? Antenna or Cable?

The show was recorded off antenna.

I suspect the file is just corrupted. In NPVR, if I try to advance by clicking on the timeline at any point after about 0:30 and before 1:30, I see the same scene in the recording. That is to say, the elapsed time shows as one would expect based on where on the timeline I click, but the show content displayed is always the same.

Yep, if you're seeing it in other players, then it's likely that section of the recording is just not there. Probably because your signal lock was lost. ie, marginal signal. Certain weather or even temperatures can push marginal signals over the line.

I get similar random jumps when the hard disk is fullish or fragmented. I suspect that data is lost when multiple recordings are in progress and the disk head is seeking all over the surface of the disk looking for space to write fragments of the several recording files. I also suspect that the automatic weekly defrag is not as thorough as a manual defrag.

Ah, this is helpful... I did recently have some missed recordings because of a full hard drive. From what you've said I bet that had something to do with it.
Thanks!
