File won't play

The thread is a bit confusing because another poster posted about an unrelated problem. In any case I just changed the bad PAT with a hex editor. You can use the program and save from the first good PAT to a new file or maybe try other utilities like ts4np to fix it up. Ideally it would be nice if sub could use another PAT if found.

Success! I used a file editor I found in the 'net and changed that PAT PID from 7550 to 8191 and the file played like it should.

I wonder though... That particular PID, 7550, appeared only once at the very beginning of the file. The next PAT is at packet 426. Could it be that the device, in my case a Hauppauge DCR-3250 cable card tuner, is sending data before the channel is changed and the end of the old channel's data is still being sent? If the codec is looking for packets from the previous channel and never finds one with the start flag, the codec would run through the entire file looking for non-existent packets. The lone 7550 packet was showing a program ID of 1028 while the next PAT shows program ID 1029 and the vast bulk of the file's packets with a PID of 7571.

Any thoughts? Does that make sense?
