can anyone help:

I was reinstalling GB and i am now getting the following error message in a .NET Framework dialouge box:

unrecognised database format C:\programfiles\dvnz\gbpvr\gbpvr.mdb

This happens as it gets to the end of the installation. If i click continue the program loads but there is no data in the drop down menus.

The full details from the debugger is below:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Try deleting the gbpvr directory and then reinstalling..

This happened to me for a while.

I eventually fixed it by deleting the GBPVR.mdb file and then running the configuration utility. This process rebuilds the database and create a new GBPVR.mdb file.

Be warned though, this does delete all of your settings and GBPVR has to be set up again!

Since taking this action I have only had that error once, after a PC lockup when I had to resort to rebooting with the power button.
Because of this behaviour, I suspect that the database file is prone to being corrupted on abnormal program terminations and I now regularly back this file up.

To the author of GBPVR (Is it you, SUB?), this is an excellent piece of software that generally does what it says on the "tin". However, I would be interested to know how regularly the database file is used when GBPVR is running?

Would it be possible to create a tempory working copy on the program startup that would only overwrite the master database on a regular program termination?

Please let me know if I am barking up the wrong tree Wink

Yes thats me.

Quite often. I'm not sure exactly. Things are not cached too much, because multiple processes can be updating the database, requiring the various processes to re-read the databsae to check for new data.

I've never once had a problem with a database. If you're worried about corruption maybe you should set up some form of automated daily backup of the file.
