johnsonx42 Wrote:the issue will be related to the recording service running as Local System, and that account doesn't have access to the UNC path in question. If you want to switch the service to your user account, you'll need to grant the "login as service" right to your account. also, if your account doesn't have a password there's a security policy about restricting password-less accounts to console logins only which you'll have to turn off.

OK,
I found an installer for gpedit on-line and installed gpedit. It turns out that "logon as service" was already granted for my account, but I did have to disable the password-less restriction. Once I disabled the password restriction, the recording service started normally with a local user account and I was finally able to record to the network drive.

Thanks again Johnsonx42 for your help.

I realise this is an older thread but it's probably the most appropriate to reply to rather than starting a new one on the very same topic.

I decided over the weekend to move my external HDD from my NUC and mount it as a share on my Synology NAS. I mapped my existing drive letter to the folder and checked a playback and everything worked fine.. Until I realised recordings didn't work.

A quick search on here lead me to multiple posts about this issue and the recording service not having access to the NAS mapping as it's not running as a local account so I understand the reason why this doesn't work.

My problem is that I can't seem to resolve this issue. My NUC uses a Microsoft account for login rather than a local account - is it not possible to actually edit the account settings on a Microsoft account to get this working? Do I need to create a local user account on the PC to get this working correctly?

Yes you can use a Microsoft system account like local system but you have to figure out how to map the drive reliably. Personally I have a net use: in my post startup.bat which works for me.

The second issue is if you use the Microsoft account, some share devices won't let you map the drive twice from the same PC, so if as an example you want to use that same drive in user session on your NUC it might not work.

Are you saying you don't have a user account at all on this PC? If you have one it would make the most sense to imply use it. There is no magic reason that you should be using Local System with NextPVR.

Windows UNC are another option if you don't want to use a drive letter.
