I have NextPvr working nicely on a Win 7 Pro PC. I "think" it's set up correctly to run as a server. It's been recording and playing shows for about a week.

I now need to set up one or more computers on my LAN to be able to run NextPVR as a client for remote accessing of the server.

The PC I need to use as an NextPVR client is a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit PC. During the install process I get an error " Server database not found at:\\hushpc\npvr\npvr.db3 ". If I click "OK" to ignore the error the install finishes with no other errors and the NPVR tray icon is shown. But nothing else works. Can't run the program or access any settings.

My first thought was Antivirus program and/or windows firewall issue. But I have both computers set up in a Windows home group and I can access the server npvr.db3 file manually from the Windows 10 PC which is where I'm trying to install an NPVR client.

I've a screen cap of something that doesn't look right to me. This is the Cliend Specific Settings on the Win 7 NPVR Server. Shouldn't there be something in the MAC address area ?

When installing the client, you must set the database to the npvr.db3 on your server. To do that, you need to share out the directory on the server as "npvr" (no quotes), and replace the \\hushpc with the name of your server (in the client machine config dialog).

Another option I would recommend would be to check out the NLite client (check out the sticky post). It basically acts like a client without the muss and fuss of configuring the settings, it simply uses the server settings.

Thanks for the info but I don't understand. I don't understand the terminology "share out the directory on the server as "npvr". If you are talking about the npvr directory sharing settings, I'm pretty sure I have just about everything set to be shared. Let me take a look at the npvr folder on the server and see if I can find some share setting that needs to be changed. Sorry for my confusion .. Not too familiar with the whole server / client thing.

I've got the client up and sort of running. I took your 2nd option and installed Nlite. There are a few things that I think I still have to sort out. Had to run the exe with a command line switch to get it to find the server. It's strange that I end up with two windows. One with the Nlite program GUI and a 2nd with a command line window that is scrolling the program activity. If I try to close it, the whole application shuts down. I can minimize it so it doesn't show up but I've never seen something like that before. A few times while watching live TV I can not exit the live viewing. It gets stuck playing back the channel video. Normally hitting <esc> stops the playback and returns me to the guide, but sometimes <esc> doesn't work and I have to "x-out" of the program and restart it.

Do you know where I can find info on key-stroke combinations to navigate and do other things? I would like to enable closed caption but that doesn't work like the server GUI does. If I try to bring up the normal NPVR GUI context menu (with a right mouse click) the program will crash. Thanks for the tip about Nlite. I think once I iron out some issues it's going to work great.

There is a list of Hot Keys in the wiki:

Not sure if that's what you need.

Thanks, Got it. Looks like it hasn't been update for several years though and doesn't have many listed options. I'll look into this some more. My old home theater (where I used to live before moving here) was mostly controlled by a hand held remote. However I'm down sizing my HTPC requirements and would like to be able to navigate with either / or a keyboard and mouse.

I'll see if I can come up with keyboard mapping or other means to control the Nlite extender from any of my devices. Ideally from a laptop, or PC or tablet. That would be nice.

It's not that out of date. It was last updated about 6 months ago. It should generally work like a normal NextPVR installed, but if you find stuff that doesn't work, let me know what specifically, and I'll try to fix.

This is normal for Nlite (which is still quite new). It's also useful for debugging I have found
