two column menu?

Anyone got an existing skin, or know how to make a two column main menu?
With about 8 plugins, and 14 items on screen, I still have to scroll. It would be nice if there were two (or more) columns available on the screen.
I just wanted a piece of sample code, as I'm not quite sure where to start myself.

What would be nice if something like the following was implemented in the skinning engine:

<menulayout pos="200,23" cols="2" space="5"/>

So start at position 200,23 you could have two cols of menus, if you wanted three just change cols to 3.

Just a thought.
