You can direct connect windows because of the 169. network, https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/view...php?t=4088 my questions relate to see if discovery works with NextPVR if NextPVR can't use http://ipv4-api.hdhomerun.com/discover to find this IP.

With Nick's fixed/static IP scheme, you essentially have two separate networks running. There would need to be a router function contained within the server to route the networks for npvr to access the HDHR.

Yes the OP's diagram shows two networks with, I assume, NextPVR on the "server" although I can't see it making a difference to recording quality.

Thx Martin this is very useful
I didn't think of using hdhomerun setup  or the IP settings from that faq
I'll need some time before I can test this but I'll report back

this would, though, prevent any type of direct client access to the HDHR, such as the use of the HDHomerun app on a client, or the config utility I use all the time to test my antenna designs.

@2leftfeet I totally agree and I think it is unnecessary but this is a discussion thread. I think Graham's signal strength comment was problem the most relevant.

Woop woop it works now Smile

I set the second NIC to 10.0.0.1 and connected it to the HDHomerun
Created a DHCP pool with a binding only to this NIC

Rebooted the HDHomerun and found it with HDHomerun setup
Then restarted the NextPVR service and after that it just worked

Next I disabled the DHCP scope and set the NIC to 169.254.5.12 as it looks less complicated
I found the HDHomerun on http://169.254.65.49 and that worked too

Just a note here Windows does a horrible job handling 2 NIC's, if you want to use 2 NIC's on the same subnet or a different subnet you can only have one gateway IP, then you can set a static route from the NIC without the gateway IP to the HDHomerun and everything will work fine as long the HDHomerun is on the same subnet.

Not realty sure why you need to do this as the HD Homerun works great on the same network, as NextPVR only use the internet for EPG updates or windows updates from Microsoft as it really don't use the much bandwidth on the internet side of things.

I run my NextPVR through my VPN router so all the updates I get comes through the VPN connections and all my internal IP's are not effective this way.
