The Windows installer always downloads the latest version from the website.
Sometimes, regressions happen, such as currently with broken subtitles.
It would be really helpful to have a way to reinstall an older version in such cases.
The easiest way would be to have an offline installer, with the version in the filename.
Until then, it seems restoring the entire OS from backup is the only solution to fix the regression Sad

Generally users make the mistake of wanting an old version rather then trying to avoid trying to find a solution. They also don't consider the need to also keep the old database and config files for the old version and revert not just the software but their entire configuration to the old point in time, losing the mapping to recordings and scheduling changes. There are typically specific issues with every release and sub regularly releases forum-only interim patches for those which you would need to keep track of. For both these reasons a personal backup is always preferable.

The jump from 5.1 to 5.2 was actually large and except for some expected graphic issues with NextPVR.exe it was actually quite a good release. There should be a fix for many issues soon. Note that coming metadata changes in October will mean you must be using 5.2 or lose artwork.

That all being said the current version is at https://nextpvr.com/stable/win64/NPVR.zip (or win32) so you could manually download it and save it yourself. Don't expect support if you try a downgrade over an existing setup.

Yes, it's true that config file formats can change over time.

Reverting not just the software, but also the old DB and config files isn't a very good solution, IMO, because the recent recordings will be missing from the database.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to add them. I wish there was. If NextPVR could just show the TS filenames without any metadata, and allow them to be played, it would still be a practical workaround. But they don't show up at all, unfortunately. So, reverting the program alone is the only practical way at this time. I understand it can cause problems down the line.
