Just noticed that in the article you actually posted what is clearly the answer:

"The local system can access the network if the drives have guest shares and you use \\xx.xx.xx.xx\sharename format and not a drive letter."

I will now try that form of the directory information in config.xml, along with my own user credentials. Probably is the answer. I'll report back in a few minutes.

Uidroid won't show the embedded art, just meta tags that are easy to integrate with the NextPVR background. This is all undefined for UI Clients I basically added it to display Shoutcast data from Internet radio streams.

I am not sure the various formats UI Clients use for the art on albums. I know from experience the it must be lower case folder.jpg not FOLDER.JPG on filesystems that are case sensitive. I don't know about COVER.JPG

Note if you hit play on a folder it will queue the whole folder. config.xml determines if this is in track order or shuffled.

Using Windows share is a royal pain, (on linux this is much easier) which is why I suggested searching to see the frustration and solutions other users have. Using your own credentials should work but you might need to reboot. Adding a net use in PreStartup.bat can help too.

Ok. Looks like "Network Service" is NOT a logon user that works. I had to change it back to my own Windows credentials.

But once I did that now I could express the directory either as \\192.168.1.12\share\ or \\DFW\share, and both worked. And these both also worked for the NextPVR.exe Windows app which also can accept the mapped network drive letter method as well. So I've settled on the \\DFW\share syntax which is the most appropriate.

The capitalization was my own, just to highlight the file name in this post. I got carried away.

But in actuality my own real files have lower case form for their name, not upper case.  And I don't user "folder.jpg", but only "cover.jpg", as I think I discovered that "cover.jpg" was universally understood while 'folder.jpg" not entirely.  But wonderful programs like Winamp accept either, as well as imbedded cover art, for display in its own cover art window.
