I have the best results in playback with the Nvidia Codecs, however they don't seem to want to start when selecting DVR-MS as the mux. Has anybody been able to force these two to work in GB-PVR ...??

(I know it can be done as I use this combo with other viewing apps. - I've also used radlight to proiritise the mux and codecs to no avail.)

The main reason for wanting DVR-MS is the lack of disc fragmention it delivers when timeshifting & recording (makes my HDD look preeety when I defrag Wink - seriously; it helps with timeshift FWD/REW alot.)

I had no problem w/ the two of those together. It performed great when I did. The only difference I had that what you do is I had HW accel unchecked in nVidia (it would cause ghosting, even though I have a nVidia, but it's a 5500).

Very Weird, I say it would be my overall set-up if the combo didn't work with the other apps

- one question though; did it show the little nvidia icon in the taskbar when it was running? - if it did then I'm going to have to do some more investigating on this ... (if it didn't how can I access the video codec properties through GB-PVR?).

You can force it as the decoder in the GP control panel. For the previous version (non purevideo), I found you couldn't get it to show in the tray. You can use GSpot to get at settings, or FFDshow if you're using it to get to it while something is playing using it (if you have the tray icon for it going, and then you can right-click to get to it).

I just finally stoppped using it the other day. I switched off it back to Intervideo. I loved it, and it looked much better, but it didn't like HW accel for my nNivdia card. It was using 60-80% resources, and I opted for the lower overhead.

After testing some more I don't think it is forced with DVR-MS. If you select DVR-MS you're unable to utilise the NV codecs - however MPEG is fine.

I too get the 'ghosting' with any codec when I select DVR-MS - to me its definately a glitch of the GB-PVR software and nothing to do with the codecs.

Sub, is there any clue you can give us ?

gbpvr uses directshow to display video. like media player does. AND it has the function to pass the decoding to ffdshow. so the 'ghosting'-effect is system-specific and doesn't depend on how gbpvr handles videos.

try using overlay instead of vmr. this solved it for me.

I meant you can force nVidia decoder in the settings. The demux is always forced since you have to chose one from the list.

The ghosting I get is when, in the nVidia decoder settings, I have hardware acceleration on. W/ it off, it was fine, just processor heavy.

I'll try overlay and see how it goes. What I've realised is happening is that with DVR-MS selected any decoder displays the video poorly (ghosting) - not just NVidia. I'm going to have to load up graphedit over the weekend and see whether the nVidia (or for that matter Cyberlink6, Intervideo, Nero & Dscaler) is behaving as it should.

IMPORTANT---> playback of a prerecorded .avi with the cyberlink mux is fine. When I change the mux to DVR-MS and playback the same file I get the lack of the nVidia tray icon & the ghosting problems. I'm not an expert at this, but from what I understand is that changing the mux shouldn't have any bearing on the playback of this file. Have I got this wrong?

The hardware acceleration doesn't change anything for me unfortunately.

Worst case scenario is that I remove all other decoders except for the NVidia one and see what happens. I shouldn't need to as I've proritised this decoder with radlight - but this way I definately know that the decoder is being forced because it will be the only one left!

This thread has got me thinking that what you select in GB-PVR is not necessarily what you get ... WTG's Thread
